Conservation efforts at jurong lake park

The park management officials at jurong lake park put up signboards encouraging visitors to conserve water .

The authorities does regular checks by patrolling the sea on a speed boat

The authorities are doing their part to safeguard the natural environment. Their efforts are not very effective as there are still people littering and dead fishes in the water . The authorities and park management should step up and do extra patrolling to make sure that no litter and dead organisms are found in the water.

Part D: Impact on man on jurong lake park

Humans have been littering and causing pollution to the water in jurong lake park.

Plastic bags like this has been often found in the water. This would cause great harm to the aquatic animals there. Those aquatic animals would chew on the plastic bag, thinking it is food and often get chocked, entangled by the plastic bag. Hence, many aquatic animals would slowly die, and as a result, the ecosystem would be largely damaged.

Why we need to conserve the biodiversity? How do we conserve them?

Biodiversity is important. One example of biodiversity is trees. Trees provide shelter, food and habitat for many living organisms. Some trees may help to cure some diseases, like cancer
. Without trees, many living organisms will lose their habitats.Without trees, some organisms will get their food. Without trees, many living organisms may eventually die and slowly, the population of living organisms will decrease, thus affecting us, Human. We feed on living organisms like fish, meat and many other more.Every animals are interlinked, including us. Without living organisms, we will not have food to consume and this will cause us to suffer form hunger and may eventually die. Thus, it is important to conserve the biodiversity.

In order to conserve the biodiversity, we need to stop some human activities like over-fishing, polluting the land, air, water, deforestation and many more. These human activities will not only harm the living organisms, Earth, but also us. We rely on the living organisms for food. So, we need to cut down all the human activities and conserve the biodiversity.

Other organisms found in Jurong Lake Park

Deforestation // Cutting down of trees

Trees are not only provide papers for human to use, but also provide habitat for many living organisms. When people cut down trees, other organisms living on the trees will be affected.Slowly, the population of the organisms will decrease and this may affect us. In order to protect and preserve all those organisms, we have to stop deforestation as these harm many organisms. Some of them become extinct due to deforestation. Trees provide shelter and habitat for many living organisms. Some trees provide food to animals too. For example, squirrels live on trees. If trees are chopped down, squirrels will lose their habitats.Slowly, the population of the squirrels will decrease, and may become extinct. Some of us feed on squirrels. If the population of squirrels decrease, we will no longer have squirrels to feed on. Thus, we need to stop deforestation and save the animals.

Pollution

There are different type of pollution. The common in Jurong Lake Park is water pollution.  They are many living organisms living in the pond such as tadpole, fish, frog and many more. When people pollute the water, the living organisms may get choked by the pollutants and may eventually die. Without those living organisms, it will affect us as we are all interlink. We feed on fish, it is a source of food. Without food, we will die as we need food to survive. We get our energy from the food we eat. As the population of fish decrease, the population of human may decrease too as we feed on them. When people pollute the animal living in the water, they will get poison and may die. Some fish will not die. However, they will carry the poison in their body. When we feed on them, we will get poison. If it get serious, we may die too. Thus, it is important to make sure that we do not pollute the water and cause water pollution. Not only we are polluting the environment, but also we are harming ourselves. In order to prevent all these from happening, we have to follow the signboard and play our part together to save the Earth.

Part B: Organisms

                                                               Biodiversity
Biodiversity is the diversity of life in an area. There are three kinds of biodiversity. One type is genetic diversity which is the diversity of genes in a species. Species need certain genes to survive. If the diversity is lacking, the species may die, and its numbers will diminish. Another type of diversity is Species diversity. It is the variety of living things in areas such as rain forests, reefs, deserts, tundra, etc. The last type of biodiversity is ecological diversity. It is the complexity and richness of an entire ecosystem.
All of the species in the ecosystem, no matter their size, have a role to play. Humans depend on animals and plants, without them we may die as they are our source of food.Humans also directly benefit from a diverse ecosystem: plants, clean water and air, provide oxygen, and control erosion.

Dog (Mammals)
Scientific Name: Canis lupus familiaris
Characteristics: Long tail, Sharp teeth, Short and pointed ear, pointed snout
The dog get its feed mostly from  mostly garbage as it is a stray dog.It will go to any place to rest when it is tired. It loiter around in search of food.

                                                                      Dragonfly
                                                          Scientific name: Anisoptera
Dragonfly is an insect and it is a carnivorous. It  has 3 main body segments and 6 legs.It has two sets of wings with a notch in the front edge of each wing and the sets of wings operate independently. It can hover in one place for up  to one minute, it can also an also fly backward and sideways and change directions. Dragonfly eyes consist of telescoping lenses and it can detect colours and moving objects.

Adaptation: It tips its wings to regulate the body temperature and can also bask in the sun to warm up

Bird's Nest Fern

Scientific name: Asplenium nidus

Bird's nest fern is a non-flowering plant and a fungus.Since it is a fungus, this means that it reproduce by spores. It can live either on the trunk of the tree or on the ground. The seedling of the bird's nest fern growing on the tree trunk. This means that trees is the habitat of bird's nest fern. If the trees are chopped down, the population of bird's nest fern will decrease because without trees, the bird's nest fern will lose its habitat.
Bird's nest fern has epiphytic fern has thick, leathery leaves minimizing water loss.

                                                                             Crickets
                                                                Scientific name: Gryllidae
Crickets have long segmented antennae, two sets of wings,6 legs, and have 3 segmented body. Crickets live under rocks and logs They tend to be nocturnal.Crickets are cold-blooded and take on the temperature of their surroundings. Crickets are omnivorous scavengers that feed on organic materials, including decaying plant material, fungi, and some seedling plants. Crickets eat their own dead when there are no other sources of food available.

Grasshopper
Scientific name: Caelifera
Grasshopper is a n insect and it is a herbivorous.
Characteristic: Grasshoppers have antennae shorter than their body. They have 2 sets of wings. Also, they have pinchers  and ormandibles that cut and tear off food. The colour of the grasshopper camouflage themselves into the grass.
Adaptation: Their long hind legs help them to spring or jump great distances to avoid or escape predators.

Moth
Scientific Name: Lepidoptera
Moth is made up of three fundamental sections, head, thorax and abdomen. The eyes of the moth are good at sensing movement. They have feathery feelers and fly around any source of light.Moths are related to butterflies, they do not eat, instead they drink the nectar of a flower. Without flower, they may suffer from thirst and may eventually die.

Welcome To Jurong Lake Park ;D

Jurong Lake is a 70ha freshwater lake and reservoir located in the western region of Singapore formed with the damming of Sungei Jurong further downstream. There are a few tourist attractions located  within the Lake such as Chinese Garden and a Japanese Garden, that are located on their respective islands within the lake, as well as the nearby Tang Dynasty Village, which has since closed down. People will often go to Jurong Lake for a jog, fishing at the jetty, cycling and more. This is also a place for people to rest. There are many different types of plants, trees and animals in the park . The new Jurong Lake District would be ready in a few more years, it is expected to attract billions of dollars in development, for offices, hotels, food and beverage and entertainment uses. The Urban Redevelopment Authority is going to transform the area around Jurong Lake to a unique lakeside destination for business and leisure in the next 10 to 15 years.New developments around Jurong Lake include a public park will be developed next to Lakeside MRT Station, new Science Centre will be built next to Chinese Garden MRT Station, Lakeside village and enhanced Chinese Garden and Japanese Garden.
